Research Questions:

There were two separate sets of research questions for this project. The first set focused on Teaching and Learning in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and the second set focused on Knowledge Sharing and Staff Learning and Development Within and Across Organisations.

Teaching and Learning in Vocational Education and Training (VET)

  1. How can social software best support teaching and learning in VET?
  2. What benefits are there to VET clients in using social software in their learning?
  3. What are the future directions of applications of social software technologies in VTE?
  4. What are the resourcing implications for the future use of social software technologies in teaching and learning in VET?

Staff Learning and Development Within and Across Organisations

This research project was Phase 2 of an ongoing research effort by the Knowledge Sharing Services project. In early 2006, the Phase 1 research report Development of an e-learning knowledge sharing model was published and has informed the questions developed as part of this Phase 2 project. Follow this link to the full Phase 1 report.

Uptake of social and collaborative web-based tools
  1. How ready are VET practitioners to adopt more socially-oriented online knowledge sharing practices?
  2. What are the characteristics of organisations, groups and individuals who are already gaining benefits from on-line social tools? What stories can they share and how can these help to translate these practices to other contexts?

Knowledge and professional development
  1. What professional development practices, models, guidelines or frameworks (in terms of content and organisation) are required to support effective uptake of emerging social practices and tools on the web?
  2. How can a more ‘social’ approach based on social software philosophies best support good capability development and professional learning practices?

Application of research
  1. What type of collaboration services are best delivered via the Australian Flexible Learning Framework?
  2. How do you evaluate over time how social tools impact on or compare with other knowledge building and professional development strategies?
